For three decades, the Varney family has been building Automatic Garage Door Company’s solid reputation as one of Cleveland’s most trusted businesses.
The Early Years
Owner James Varney started out working as a truck driver. With a young family at home, Jim decided to take the small amount of money he had saved and start a garage door company. What little he knew about the business he had learned from a long-time neighbor growing up in Bedford, Ohio. Jim and his wife, Lynne, began working out of a back room in their home. Jim would go door-to-door, asking homeowners if they needed their garage door serviced or replaced. He used the service money to buy tools and pay for gas. If a replacement was required, he would take a deposit from the homeowner in order to pay to purchase the new door from a supplier. Once installed, he would collect the rest and bank it. Slowly but surely, the Varneys built up enough income to buy a truck and hire an employee. Then another truck … and the rest is history.
Looking to the Future
Thirty years later, the company that started in a back room is continuing to grow and thrive, with a new office building in Streetsboro. Jim has now been in the garage door business for most of his life and has developed a deep knowledge and understanding of running a successful enterprise. In 2004, the company he founded became a second-generation business with the addition of Jeff Varney, who began working closely with his father after graduating from Baldwin Wallace University.
Along with a skilled crew, the Varney family remains committed to providing quality service to the Northeast Ohio community. We believe that our reputation as an honest and reliable business will always be the recipe for success. While others seek to profit by cutting corners, or recommending unnecessary services to customers, we believe that a good reputation and consistent service will reap bigger profits in the long run. Automatic Garage Door Company looks forward to being the #1 source for Ohio garage doors and serving our community for many decades to come.
